Introducing the Passage of the Day

Hey Reader, Introducing the Passage of the DayToday I’m launching Passage of the Day, a new daily way to type Scripture with others. You can type today’s passage at typetheword.com/daily. You can also find it at the top of your Type the Word home page by clicking the "Daily" button. At typetheword.com/daily, you can type the day’s Scripture, see how many others have typed it, and track your streak of consecutive days completed. There won’t be passages on weekends, so missing Saturday or Sunday won’t reset your streak. To start, through the end of September, we’ll be typing through selections from the Psalms starting with today in Psalm 1. With time, I’m hoping to make this more community-focused: shared highlights so we can see which part of the passage stood out most to others, a Discord thread for discussing the passage of the day, and eventually free Type the Word merch for certain streak milestones. The Passage of the Day is currently turned off for all classroom users, since it includes some gamification. In the future, teachers will have the option to turn it on for their students if they so desire. I’m excited about this feature because being a Christian is not a solo sport. I’m hoping this feature helps us connect, sharpen one another, and encourage one another. Managing your newsletterIf you would like a reminder email to type the Passage of the Day, there’s now an “Email preferences” section in your personal settings. For now, this email will simply remind you to type the passage, but in the future I’d love to include other resources for you to dig into the context and meaning. You can also manage these settings by clicking “Update your profile” at the bottom of this email. These settings are helpful if you want to opt in to any of the other segments of the Type the Word newsletter. A Preview of the new brandingType the Word is also about to receive a rebrand. My wife is a branding designer, and she’s redoing Type the Word through her studio, Studio Evergreen. Our intent is to make Type the Word feel more kid-friendly while still keeping it rooted in Scripture. Here’s where it’s going so far. We are still talking about how to make things as kid friendly as possible, while also making it feel like an app that you as an adult wouldn't be ashamed to have open at work. I'm leaning toward doing a monochrome / less playful version of this new branding for individuals using Type the Word, but I might also just allow users to select the preset that fits their taste.
