You can now highlight Scripture in Type the Word

Hi Reader!

I don’t know about you, but when I’m reading a book, I love marking what stands out to me. I do this because I want to be able to flip through later, remember things that were meaningful, and potentially even use those sections in a conversation, blog, or text of encouragement for someone else.

Type the Word now has highlighting and my hope is that it will allow you to do those same things with the scripture you type, highlighting what’s impactful, so you can remind yourself of it, and share it with friends.

Find your highlights later

You can also search your highlights by book and translation in the new Highlights section on the Progress page.

Highlights are shared on the Passage of the Day

And as a fun bonus, on the daily passage, highlights are shared between everyone typing. So you can see what other people found impactful. It's a small way to spur each other on.

Passage of the Day for the Thanksgiving season

Speaking of the Passage of the Day, I’ve changed the plan for the rest of the year. I was going to run Rhetorical Questions all the way to January, but with holidays approaching I thought it’d be more fun to cover some seasonal topics. So starting next week, we’ll be typing passages devoted to Thanksgiving, and in December we’ll be typing core passages from the advent narrative. Click here if you want to receive the devotionals we are writing for the upcoming seasons.

I’m pumped to read the devos Justin and Anders are writing, to type through these passages together, and to see what you all highlight.

In Christ,
Josh

P.S. A large Christian newsletter is highlighting Type the Word tomorrow, so I've scheduled passages for the weekend. These won't count toward or against your streak, but I'd love for you to type through the Passages of the Day this weekend. I think seeing people type through the Bible could encourage other believers to join us.

P.S.2 One more thing, I’ve been following a small project called Trace the Living Word. They make high quality, hand written Bibles that make writing out the Bible by hand easy. This would be a fun Christmas gift! It's essentially Type the Word in physical format. This is not a sponsorship of any kind, just thought you might be interested! Check them out!

Hi Reader, I’ve recently been reading Peak, a book about the science of getting really great at something. One of my takeaways is that getting better takes focus—and it helps to actually want to improve. Part of my strategy for helping students want to grow as typists is to make their practice meaningful by having them type through the Bible. But a little friendly competition can also help motivate students to keep practicing. That’s why I’m excited to share a new feature: classroom...

Hi Reader, I'm excited to share that Passage of the Day just got a big upgrade! Justin and Anders are joining me in writing these emails! Meet Justin Gerber Justin lives in Clarkston, Georgia, with his wife and two-year-old son. We met at church shortly after I moved to Atlanta, and I’ve been grateful for his hospitality, his pursuit of God in fatherhood, and our friendship as accountability partners. He enjoys soccer, ultimate frisbee, reading, woodworking, and the outdoors. And a fun fact:...

Hello Reader! Type the Word’s typing curriculum just got a sweet upgrade that I'm excited to share! As I’ve been chatting with y’all these past few weeks at conferences, I’ve realized the question isn’t always “How do I teach my students to type?” Often, it’s “How do I help them unlearn the hunting and pecking they’ve picked up on an iPad?” Students may know where the letters are without knowing how to move their hands around a keyboard. They need more than a passage to practice—they need...
