Type the Word Update December 2025

DECEMBER 2025

Type the Word

Hi Reader,

I've been working hard on TTW, so this is a longer update, but there are lots of exciting things to share! Since August the total number of verses typed has grown from 310,000 to 480,000 total verses. Last month we had the most signups ever at 220 and December is already our top month ever with 44k verses typed so far. I'm grateful that God has continued to grow the project, I'm amazed at the discipline I see when I look at usage statistics, and I'm humbled to be able to continue stewarding this project.

If you're new to TTW, welcome!

WPM / Accuracy Stats (Beta)

Having a way to see your WPM (words per minute) and accuracy has been a long time feature request, and I'm happy to share that an early access version of this feature is available for you to try. You can now see these stats by toggling yourself into the early access group within settings.

This will place you into the early access group for seeing WPM and Accuracy stats in your `/history` page.

The next step in this beta program is getting typing speed and accuracy stats displayed live as you type. For a long time I was hesitant to add this feature as it will subtly change your motivation for practicing, but I've realized that the best path forward is to just make it optional.

New Translations (Alpha)

The other top requested feature in TTW's history has been other translations than ESV. As of this past week, this is in super early access! You can toggle the new translations early access flag in your settings:

Which will reveal the new translations selector:

So far I've added NIV, NLT, CSB, NKJV, NASB, MSG, BSB, and our first non english translation NTV! I was able to get so many popular translations at once by integrating with a translation aggregator called api.bible.

This is "super early access," because I currently don't have the right attribution being shown, and there are known issues with how I'm parsing and formatting the text. I'm planning to fix these issues shortly, but was too happy to not share the progress at the very least. Keep an eye on the `/changelog`, as I'll be sharing there when I've stabilized each translations.

If you speak another language, and have thoughts on what the best translations for that language are, could you check this list of translations and send me an email recommendation with details about why your suggesting the translation? I'd love to support translations for as many languages as possible.

If you do give this feature a try, feel free to give me an update with any issues you find. I'm still thinking through how the product should work with multiple translations. As of now I am just getting the text and showing it, and I need to introduce a middle layer where I format things more precisely per translation.

Lastly, if you do get value from this feature then consider donating. This new API is 29$/month, which I think is totally worth the cost and donations help me pay for costs like this one.

TTW in Christian Schools

With that in mind, I was chatting with a friend over thanksgiving and it occurred to me that I could make a version of TTW for Christian Schools.

I've reached out to a Christian school, and I will be running a trial with them this spring. As part of the trial, I'll be directly integrating TTW into Google Classroom, so that teachers can assign passages of scripture to their students and get automatically updated on their progress, speed, and accuracy.

This is exciting to me because typing the Bible can help kids practice their typing while meditating on the word of God. And with the addition of new languages, it can also help them practice a new language.

It's also a good way of monetizing TTW, which is important for it's long term stability. With that being said, this is a new idea and I had no intention of going in this direction back in August when I created the donation button. If you would like your donation returned, send me an email, and I'll be happy to refund you with no questions asked.

If you work for a Christian school, have kids that go to a Christian school or anything in between, I'd love to connect and see if TTW might work in that context.

A scripture I have been thinking about

9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

I just got a new job. Still praising God for his provision this Christmas. He is my provider! While I was job searching Joshua 1:9 gave me so much hope.

The Lord commands Joshua to be strong and courageous. This is necessary because life is filled with hard things. While I was job searching and meditating on this scripture, I was struck by the fact that caution is not a virtue, but courage is. Sometimes it feels like our culture says the opposite. I want to fight to be courageous though and fight the default of fear I find within myself.

The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?

Psalm 118:6

This scripture also reminded me that my feelings are not my source of truth, but God's word is. He is with me.

I can bring my thoughts and fears to God in prayer, and when I do He is faithful to give me peace. I can actively remind myself of my status and position before Him by meditating on scripture. Just before many of my interviews I would go for a walk and say "Have I not commanded you?" over and over again. I have no other option. The good life in Christ is filled with courage and confidence rooted in Him.

I am praying that God would give you courage today to walk with Him faithfully. He is with you and He is for you.

Merry Christmas y'all!
