Type the Word
Hey Reader,
It's Josh, from Type the Word. I can't wait to share my updated vision for TTW and details about the new memorization mode and keyboard accessibility improvements I built this month.
For any new folks, here are some links to get you connected:
In April, students in schools using Type the Word, typed over 7000 verses in the Bible.

Nothing has blessed my life like the scripture my parents helped me memorize as a kid, so seeing students typing and memorizing the Bible makes me super excited.
Shoutout to Heidi, Justin, Caleb, and Greg who are working around the rough edges of a new product to have their students practice their typing skills while working through the Bible.
My vision for this Google Classroom integration
Last month I shared this question: What would the world look like if every student left high school with Romans 8 and Matthew 5-7 memorized? And shared a demo of the new classroom integration.
I've been thinking about this more, and I'm now hoping to focus full time on TTW by the end of the year. My plan is to sell TTW's Google Classroom integration into Christian schools, so I can devote myself fully to creating a great typing, memorization, and meditation tool.
Long term, I'd love to build other Christian education tools for studying the Bible and lower the friction between students and the Bible.
Why am I sharing all this? Because the north star of TTW has now changed with a focus on Christian schools and middle to high school students. Nothing is changing about the current personal typing experience, but I could use your patience in these next few months, as I focus my energy on Classroom features, business and marketing strategy, reading books about education, and connecting with as many educators as I can.
4 Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.
As I've been memorizing James 3 I've learned that my tongue is quite powerful, so it felt like a good time to talk about this publicly.
Expect more details about the classroom integration in the coming month, and if you are a Christian business owner or marketing expert, I'd love to chat through my business and marketing plans with you, so please reach out!
Follow Type the Word on LinkedIn?
It's a bit corny to ask for a follow, but I'm realizing that LinkedIn is one of the best ways I can meet educators and share the vision of Type the Word. If you could follow the new page and help me not look like a weirdo when I send a connection request with three followers, that would be a big blessing 😅
In other news, last month I announced memorization modes for memorizing scripture on Type the Word, and while I've been working on memorizing James 3:1-6 this month I found myself wanting to be able to just type the first letters of each word. So I created first letter only mode. This mode allows you to get a bunch of repetitions through each verse and not be limited by your typing speed. Here is a demo:

I've been interspersing first letter only mode in between other fuller typing actions and been audibly saying the words out loud before I type each letter and it's helped me lock in the first few verses of James 3 already.
Global shortcuts
I created TTW to make it easy to type the Bible, and as a former keyboard enthusiast I love it when apps create ways to for me to accomplish things without my hands having to leave the keyboard. So this month I created a global keyboard shortcut menu where you can see available shortcuts and customize them to your liking. You can open this by clicking the "?" in the bottom right corner of your screen.
the new keyboard shortcut menu for finding available shortcuts and customizing them
If there are any other shortcuts you'd like added, let me know!
I built this feature mostly thinking about the MacOS keybindings, so if you are a keyboard enthusiast who primarily works on Windows, I'd love your input on what the best default keybindings should be.
New deep links
During my day job, I have many random moments where I'm free to do something, and too often I find myself getting on social media. Instead, I'd like to spend that time in the Bible, so I've created a couple of deep links for TTW, for quickly getting to your most recent typing locations. In this demo, you can see how I've set up Raycast so there is a global shortcut on my computer to get straight to my last typing location in TTW.
At some point this month I was thinking about how my testimony is one of the best tools I have when sharing the gospel. That led me to me realizing that having more quotes on the home page might just be a good way to get the word out for TTW. So I've been working on expanding the quote section of the home page.
There were a bunch of smaller things I did this month. For example, I created a new Google Classroom landing page with details about how the integration works, so check out this months update video for more details and for a demo of all the above changes:
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. 18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
I don't know about you but Spring has got me in a good mood, and I've been struck by the number of blessings in my life. James 1 has been on my mind. Every one of those blessings came from God. And the biggest blessing of them all, my salvation, was given to me because it was "his own will" ... to bring me "forth by the word of truth." That's true for you too. It was his desire that you should have faith and trust in Him. It was his desire to know you and to have a relationship with you.
44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Christian. We have found treasure. We have found the pearl of great price. It's the gift of our faith and relationship with Jesus. Regardless of your circumstances, eternity has been fixed, your debt has been paid, nothing can separate you from the great love of God. I am sure of it.
38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
