Hi everyone! This past week I’ve been redesigning Type the Word, and the new brand just shipped. It's brighter, warmer, and more playful. The old brand served us well for a long time, but I’m excited about this direction because the design fits the new mission of Type the Word. Design decisions For starters, the font is now Lexend. Lexend was designed and tested to make text easier to read. It’s accessible for friends with visual impairments or students with dyslexia, and it still looks great. Lexend is paired with Zilla Slab for headings to give a friendly tone with subtle visual parallels to old typewriter fonts. You'll also see a new illustration style. We wanted them to feel like they could've been doodled on a sticky note, something full of child like wonder. I want people to open Type the Word and feel welcomed into a relationship with God. I think these elements help that come across clearly. The old design system was starting to strain as I built more powerful interfaces for teachers, but this new foundation lets those tools grow while keeping the student and individual experiences friendly and easy to use. I collaborated with my wife (Studio Evergreen) on the creative direction and brand design. Follow her LinkedIn for the design case study that will be coming out in the coming weeks with more details. A note about custom themes As part of this change, custom themes are no longer available. I did not make this choice lightly. As I was iterating the themes, the customizability of the old theming system kept making things more complicated than I was hoping. As a solo founder I need to keep the product focused so it can stay polished. This doesn’t have to be a forever decision, but I think for now this is the best path forward. If you are color blind, there is a new option in setting called "Typing feedback." This allows you to adjust the success and error feedback colors to make them easier to differentiate. If you are colorblind, I'd love for you to try these combinations and give me feedback on how easy they are to see. I'm happy to adjust these! Let me know what you think 🙏 What’s your initial impression? Does it make you feel more or less inclined to jump into God’s word? Would love to hear your thoughts. In Christ, |
Type the Word Christian schools replace generic typing lessons with Scripture-based practice helping their students become confident typists with deep knowledge of the Bible.
Hi Reader, I'm excited to share that Type the Word now has a referral program and a merch store! For a little context, Type the Word isn’t an investor-driven startup. It’s just me trying to build something that is a blessing to other Christians. If this project has been helpful to you, the best way you can ensure Type the Word’s continued existence is to share it with your friends. Earn merch by sharing Type the Word To make sharing a little more fun, I’ve created a referral program where you...
Hi Reader! Type the Word just crossed 1 million verses typed. 1,000,000 Verses Typed in TTW That number is exciting—but what it represents means even more: people returning to God’s Word, one verse at a time. Type the Word would not be where it is today without your dedication to Scripture, your encouragement, and the inspiration I’ve received from so many faithful brothers and sisters in Christ. I’m deeply grateful for each of you and excited to see how God continues to use his word. I have...
Hi Reader, I’m excited to share that Type the Word now integrates with Microsoft Teams—and that we’re officially a verified Microsoft Partner. For schools already using Microsoft Teams, this makes it easier to bring Type the Word into the tools and systems your team relies on. I recorded a short walkthrough so you can see the finished integration in action: If this sounds like a good fit for your school, feel free to share the video with the person who oversees technology or Microsoft Teams....
