Hello again Reader,
Since my last email in October we have almost typed an entire Bible worth of verses, and in total this year, 97446 verses have been typed.
When I created TTW last fall, I would have never guessed that it would be used this much. My prayer is that God speaks to you as you type his word and fills you with hope.
December Updates
In the October update, I talked about three things in TTW's future:
- Tracking speed and accuracy statistics
- Enabling custom themes
- And adding more translations like NLT and CSB
Custom Themes
Custom Themes is here! You can now create a theme within the settings menu:
When "System" is selected, you can individually select the themes you want to use for both light and dark mode:
And if you match the "Secondary" color and the "Success" color, then you get this disappearing text effect, which is pretty fun.
My goals with this feature were to fix the accessibility issues there were with the default red and green, while also adding a bit of fun. I will be making the best user created themes available by default for everyone, so if you create any themes that you particularly love, share a screenshot in the Discord channel or email me directly. Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with! 🎨
Fixes
- Fixed a bug with backspace (⇦) where it would delete an entire word. This was a bug in Chrome that would happen after the shortcut for deleting the previous word was used (⌥+⇦) despite the ⌥ being unpressed.
-
Worked on some incorrect spacing in the quote within Matthew 6:10-13
- This issue isn't completely resolved because the fix I initially created caused some other issues. I'm working on this now!
What's next?
My plan for the rest of December is to fix 4 or 5 user reported issues, and in the new year, focus on another side project I have been thinking about for some time.
The goals for TTW are still the same. I'll continue doing smaller fixes and updating everyone as we type through the Bible, and then in mid 2025, I'll work on speed and accuracy statistics within TTW as well as more translations.
A scripture I have been thinking about
22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 24 for
“All flesh is like grass
and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
and the flower falls,
25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
And this word is the good news that was preached to you.
1 Peter 1:22-25 (quoting Isaiah 40:6-8)
When I was a kid, my mother always played Fernando Ortega in the car. He sings a song called "All Flesh is Like the Grass" that is him singing 1 Peter 1:24.
These past few months have been hard for me. I found myself listening to this album a lot, and this song gave me so much hope through 1 Peter. This world and it's problems as well as our own personal problems are like the grass, they are temporary and they pass away. "but the word of the Lord remains forever." God's word is not. God is faithful. And he has promised to restore this world and our bodies. With Christmas approaching, I am reminded of the hope I have for restoration through Christ.
Praying that God would fill you with hope as you find him in his everlasting word.
